to put pen to paper. Next month, we welcome Laura Beale with her
tale of "I was born in a Zoo". It sounds as if it could be very
entertaining, so please come along and maybe bring a friend. |

| November | This
Month as usual was our A.G.M. We are sorry that John Gill has had to
stand down as Chairman, but we are not losing him as he is going to be
our Vice Chairman to help Josephine Burgess, who has kindly agreed to
stand for Chairperson. Josephine is also busy as our Speaker Secretary,
and we are very grateful for all they do for us. We are also sorry to
lose Audrey Evans and Margaret Cowie. Thank you for all you have done.
We welcome four new committee members and thank them for coming
forward. We hope that thing will carry on running smoothly. New
ideas are always welcome, and with larger numbers we will hopefully be
able to start some new interest groups. We would like to take this time
to also thank all our members who lead interest groups, we appreciate
all their hard work . Next month is our Christmas meeting
and we have some photo quizs, also it is a time to mingle and get to
know the members, with a cuppa and some nibbles. I hope you will come
along and have a great time, we look forward to meeting you. |
| October | A
very big thank you to Beryl our Treasurer for finding the time to
organise the wonderful talk she gave us on China. Her knowledge of
all things Chinese made it a very enlightening talk. Many Thanks
again for your time and trouble. We have no speaker next month, as
it is our A.G.M. We hope that you will come along and give us your
support in making vital decisions that will effect all our
members. Unfortunately our Chairman must stand down, and it is up to
you to decide who should replace him, so please come along. It is your
chance to add your voice. |
| September: | Many
thanks to Paula Day for stepping in at the last minute, and many thanks
for all her useful advice on how to stay safe and healthy in later
life. I am sure we will heed her words, and follow up on the many free
facilities that are available to us. With lots of informative
leaflets to read, I hope there is something for everyone. Our
next Speaker is one of our members. She has done several trips to
China, and I'm looking forward to hearing all about it! If you would
like to hear her you are welcome to come and visit us. |
| June: | What
a lovely treat! Thank you to Lyndon Hatfield for an interesting talk on
"Hearing Dogs for the Deaf", and to be able to see Pixie a puppy in
training. She was a very pretty black Cocker Spaniel, Poodle cross, and
very well behaved. It was interesting to find out how the Charity
came about, and how it has developed. It was also good to now had
they used some rescue dogs in their training programme. Next month,
the last before the summer recess, is "I don't wish to complain BUT..."
by Gwen Appleton. It is about experiences within the Travel
Industry, so it could be very funny! I hope you will come and visit us,
and we look forward to meeting you.

to John Stedman for standing in at the last minute. His talk was about
William L Wyllie the marine artist. It was very fascinating to hear
about his life's work. He also informed us about the forthcoming
events at the Portmouth Museum. The "Little black dress" (about
Fashion) is the current event, and "No place like Portsmouth", and
"Birds Bugs and Beasts" are coming shortly. Our next speaker is
Lyndon Hatfield on Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. As well as
interesting speakers we enjoy a cuppa and a chat, so come along and meet

how interesting it could be. Mr. Patrick Pead spoke on the first
Vaccination. From the very beginning we were captured in his enthusiasm
for his topic. It opened our eyes to a part of history little spoken
about, but so vital to us all. Many Thanks for a wonderful afternoon. I
am sorry if you missed it , but try to come to our next meeting and
listen to Dianna Gregg, on "How to trace your Family Tree". Why not
bring a friend! We wish you a Very Happy Easter, and hope to see you
soon. |
