Welcome to the U3A
Portsdown
Art Appreciation page
We are a
small group of ten art lovers who meet at my house in the afternoon of the
second Friday in the month.
We jointly
chose a programme of topics and we research one of these topics prior to the monthly
meeting. Each member of the Group then
gives a ten minute presentation on an aspect of the current topic. The topic may be a painter, sculptor,
illustrator etc or a more general subject for example Oriental Art.
Programme of events for 2012
January
Artists who live or have lived or worked locally
February
Palladio and Palladianism
March
Jean Renoir
April Constantin Brancusi
May Photography (choose a photographer)
June
Henri Matisse
July Japanese
ceramics
August
No meeting
September
Michael Angelo
As you can
see from the above we cover a very broad range of topics and this variety results
in lively and interesting meetings. We
have outings to galleries and museums at regular intervals. These outings are not restricted to the Group
and are always opened up to the general membership.
An Appeal
As a result
of the Open Day in October I now have a list of six people interested in
joining an Art Appreciation Group. In
view of the way my Group works with each individual member participating, it is
not possible for the Group to increase in numbers. We need therefore someone to come forward to
start another Art Appreciation Group. It doesn’t have to be run along the same
lines as my Group as there are lots of ways to run a Group but if you are interested
and would like to see how my Group works I would be happy to invite you along
one Friday to see what we get up to.
Just look out for me at a General Meeting.
Please
think about it – it is not difficult or I wouldn’t be doing it!
